My interest in Tinting began in 1988, while still in High School. I had my vehicle tinted at a local shop and I was curious to how it was applied. Watching the installer apply the film I figured I could try and do it myself. I quickly learned it was not as simply as I thought and was more of an art and a certain technique was necessary to apply the window film properly.
Later that same year, My High School friend, Eddie Gomez began to experiment in his Father’s garage in South Gate, Ca. We purchased window film at an auto parts store using mediocre tools at the time. Not having any training other than only watching other tinters we spent hours in his garage with not so great results. Our friends and family would often stop by Eddie’s garage and ask us to put tint on their cars.
We quickly perfected our skills and began to learn more about window film and its manipulation. Soon we were tinting every weekend while still in School. What was once a curious hobby began to transform into a business. Our first business name was called “Shadez of XTC”.
Better quality window film and better tools were purchased, it made the installs more quicker which made all the difference. The only type of film during that time was a dyed film. Most dyed films fade, and lighten after some time.
Eddie and I expanded to work at a Stereo shop in Bell, Ca. We tinted more consistently and gained a contract with a car dealership within the city. Both just eighteen years old, the business momentum was non stop.
Until life happened, at the age of 23 I decided to join the Police Academy. I graduated from the Rio Hondo Police Academy, Class 130. Soon after I was married and had two Son’s early on. Dedicating my life to my family I stopped tinting but the passion never ceased. On occasion, I would tint with the products I still had. After several years, my son was curious about the tinting process and peaked my interest in the film business again. I immersed myself into window film once again. Learning more techniques and having some of my own from before. I attended S.E.M.A. (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in 2015 for the first time. I made contact with the top window film manufacturers in the world.
Today, some dyed films are still in existence with the option of Metalized, Carbon, and the top of line Ceramic film.
